Get to the Root of Your Symptoms

Not all eye drops work the same way.

Xiidra was made to target inflammation—so it can get to the root of your chronic dry eye symptoms.

If your symptoms keep coming back, it could be a sign you need something that works differently.

Hi this is Julie Bowen and I'm going to talk about Dry Eye.

So, the first question is “describe my Dry Eye symptoms, and when did I realize that I had a problem with Dry Eye?”

Please see important Safety Information later in this video. Please see Full Prescribing Information on this site or at Xiidra.com.

I would say that it was over the course of the last year. I was on set in Georgia where they used a lot of atmosphere on the set—that’s like, um… a bunch of little particulates that fill a room to make the light look better. And during that period in Georgia, I started wearing contacts for the first time.

And I could make it about two hours in that atmosphere before I had to pop them out and *go fuzzy for the rest of the day.* My eyes were so itchy and dry, it was miserable. I was constantly using over-the-counter eye drops, but even still, my symptoms meant I couldn’t use my contact lenses in the atmosphere and continue working.

*Why did I decide to try something different?*

The over-the-counter drops—they are fine for quickie relief, but they don’t work when I need to keep my contacts in.

They don’t help me over the course of a day when I’m working in dry or artificial atmospheres.

Xiidra is a prescription eye drop used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.

So, with my Dry Eye, it just makes it uncomfortable to wear contacts at times.

Xiidra may not work for everyone, but we hope it works for you.

Plus, I kept having to step out after each take and drop them in. So, I got Xiidra.

Before using Xiidra, remove contact lenses and wait fifteen minutes before re-inserting.

*Was I aware that inflammation could play a role in Dry Eye?*

No. I had no idea. When I went to my eye doctor, I told him I was getting irritated wearing contacts and he said you might actually have an underlying inflammation issue, and he prescribed Xiidra.

He explained that Xiidra targets inflammation, and over-the-counter drops don’t.

The exact mechanism of action of Xiidra in dry eye disease is not known.

That’s why they couldn’t give me lasting relief, but the Xiidra really does.

*With continued use, Xiidra reduced the symptoms for some patients at 2 weeks in 2 out of 4 studies and at 12 weeks in all 4 studies.

*How does Xiidra fit into my everyday routine?*

It’s very simple. Just use the drops once in the morning, I actually do it before I brush my teeth, and once at night before bed… and it just works.

Prescription use only. Use as directed.

*How would you tell someone that is suffering from Dry Eye about the relief you found from Xiidra?*

I would have to say you need to be patient. This is not like over-the-counter drops, but once the Xiidra starts to work, it is much longer lasting, and you don’t experience Dry Eye on and off all day long.

*With continued use, Xiidra reduced the symptoms for some patients at 2 weeks in 2 out of 4 studies and at 12 weeks in all 4 studies.

*Lasting Dry Eye symptom relief helps me…*

*With continued use, Xiidra reduced the symptoms for some patients at 2 weeks in 2 out of 4 studies and at 12 weeks in all 4 studies.

…helps me get my work done without being in itchy, red-eyed pain. I am super dependent on contacts, and I cannot wear them when my eyes are inflamed.

  • Xiidra has been studied in more than 1000 patients with dry eye in 4 separate 12-week clinical studies.

§Study Design: Soft contact lens wearers with dryness symptoms at study start (n=40) all received Xiidra twice a day for 12 weeks. Participants were instructed to remove their contact lenses prior to instillation of Xiidra and wait 15 minutes prior to placing the lenses back in their eyes.

Study Limitation: This was a single-center, open label study with no control treatment arm. Data are based on descriptive statistics and should be interpreted with caution. All participants had to have used artificial tears or rewetting drops at least once in the month prior to study start; only 30% of participants had used these eye drops twice per day (Xiidra dosing frequency), while the remaining 70% either had to increase (62%) or decrease (8%) their daily dosing frequency during the study. It is possible that the more frequent use of Xiidra as compared to previous drops could have contributed to the reduction in symptoms in some participants.
